I want to know how a person can do this to a character [I'm not even sure if it's an RPS character or a TV character -- I haven't touched the story with a ten-foot pole] and justify it in some way. It's like they have this deep-seated loathing for that character, and I'm just like -- why bother writing them, then?

Also, purple eyeshadow really clashes with Jensen Ackles' eyes.

So, that's something.

If y'all haven't figured it out yet, I've got somewhat of an obsessive personality. For example, two weeks ago, I started playing Kingdom Hearts. I gave up on the first version rather quickly because it bored the crap out of me, but when I picked up Kingdom Hearts II, I played for a week straight until I beat it. Apparently this is abnormal -- playing for several hours a day, every day, I mean. My suitemate, who owns the system and the game, said it took her about a month of playing, interspersed at about two hours every third day, to beat it.

Like I said, obsessive personality.

However, now that I'm addicted to Kingdom Hearts, I keep Googling the damn game. I'm like, "When will KH3 come ouuuut?" So far, I've learned that there are three KH-based games coming out in the nearish future, none of which is a direct sequel to KH2. I've tried other video games, but nothing -- except Guitar Hero -- has hooked me as thoroughly as KH. And yes, Final Fantasy nearly put me to sleep.

I need more, dammit. :|

On a related note, if you like the music from the KH games, check out Sebastian Wolff. He's got some great medleys available for download on his site, as well as some other selections.

ATTN: American Supernatural fans!

For a limited time only, you can download the season 3 premiere episode for free from iTunes, simply by clicking this link.

How effing awesome is that? Less awesome -- people outside the US are having difficulties downloading the episode. But still -- OMGYAYZ! Now I have a way to watch SPN tomorrow, even though the majority of the people in my suite like Grey's Anatomy more than Supernatural.

And, you know, I can watch it before even more spoilers get passed through the trivia section at the SPN fans application on Facebook. [Have I mentioned I'm a Facebook junkie yet? Because seriously, goddamn.]

Who's surprised that Rowling's main character...

... is a Gary Stu? ::snorfle:: After witnessing the transformation of Ginny from a funny little girl with a crush to the most gorgeous girl in school, who's smart, talented, funny, and really good at Quidditch, too, I think it's only natural that October's Wizard of the Month would rise to such Stu heights.

Okay seriously -- do I even need the cut tag? This is just sad.

Section: Wizard of the Month
(SPOILER WARNING)

Harry Potter (1980 - )

The Boy Who Lived, only known survivor of the Avada Kedavra curse and conqueror of Lord Voldemort, also known as Tom Riddle. Harry Potter joined the reshuffled Auror Department under Kingsley Shacklebolt at age 17, rising to become Head of said department in 2007.
Wow. In just ten years, with no formal training to become an Auror [I thought they were the Ministry's police and military all rolled up into one, but apparently they're a club that just any kid with a proficiency in Sectumsempra and Expelliarmus can get into], Harry's leading the department. All while schtupping his perfect, hot, and really good at Quidditch wife until she has three perfect little savior babies with unfortunate names.

Somebody's been busy.

I knew there was something fishy about that epilogue! Rowling's been one of the bad!fic authors all along, hasn't she? I wonder which one...

New glasses are go, even though they look pretty identical to the old ones. The optometrist was able to use my old lenses, thank Jeebus.
Italian phrase of the day:

Ho perso la mia voce.

If you can translate that, you can tell what's up with me today. [If it translates badly, I blame a friend of mine who taught me the phrase.]

I totally mimed my way through English class this morning. I'm sure Italian and German this afternoon will be an utter joy. :|

In other news, my school has reinstated the German major. Dude, I'm so doubling. You have no idea how excited I am about this. Seriously. I'm a languophile of the highest degree, and being able to major in my mother tongue would just create this spaztastic version of Magz that, while overstressed at the thought of double-majoring, is deliriously happy. I came to this school because they had a German program, which they somewhat phased out last year -- and then they brought it back. Yay, big advanced classes that create demand! ::pumps fist::

... yeah, I'm a nerd. Whoever didn't know that, well -- what the heck are y'all doing here?

Yesterday was AWESOME.

So I woke up at 9:08 AM. Normally, this wouldn't be a problem, except that I generally leave for my algebra class at 9:30 so I'm there early and have the best pick of the seats. :| I got dressed, emerged with pillow creases still on my face, and realized that I couldn't find my calculator. Five minutes of frantic searching later, I gave it up as lost and headed for class.

It was only when I got to class that I realized I'd forgotten my room key and dorm pass, as well as my cell phone, on my desk. But whatever, I had roommates to let me in, right? So I flipped through my algebra notes -- I knew this stuff! -- for a few minutes before the professor handed out the exam.

The minute the professor handed out the exam, my mind went blank. I couldn't remember a single formula or method. I improvised my way through the majority of the problems, but there were still several I left unanswered. I'll be lucky if I get a 50. Afterwards, I planned to meet up with one of my roommates after my second class so she could let me in.

I headed off to Italian office hours, convinced that it was the start of the worst day I'd had in recent years. The professor gave me the exam [yeah, another] and asked if I minded music, but it appeared that his TA had disappeared with his boom box. And then? And then? Something happened that may or may not have negated the shitty start to my day: the guy who I've had trouble not ogling, whenever I see him on campus, for over a year walks in with the radio and starts speaking rapid Italian with the professor. Dude, I could've died.

My second class went off without a hitch, and in fact we were let out a few minutes earlier than scheduled, which was cool. I made my way back toward the dorm, where I asked one of my roommates to meet me -- and she wasn't there. In a moment of genius, I walked in the direction of the building where she had her class... and saw her walking in the opposite direction with another of my roommates. Awesome, right?

After catching up with them and parting ways with the other roommate, we went for the door. As it turned out, she didn't have her pass on her, either. :| We caught a lucky break, though, in that we followed some guy into the dorm, and the RA was there to let us in. Three of us, I later discovered, out of four had forgotten our passes, when generally we all remember them.

I seriously wanted to just crawl into bed until it was tomorrow.

Dude, I went all rockstar in Algebra today.

I was seriously thisclose to falling asleep in my math class, so I jotted a note down and passed it to my friend. It said: "Went to the café. BRB." Then I walked out.

She was still trying to control her laughter when I walked back in ten minutes later holding a bottle of iced tea. :D The best part was that my professor apparently got all flummoxed about the way I left, and completely fucked up the steps in factoring an equation. I could've died laughing. ::snickers:: She was like, "Um, does anyone see the error here?" and we were all, "Um, aren't you the professor?"

Insane? Maybe.

In addition to signing up for Sweet Charity [where the auction is still going on!], I just signed up for ficrocksthe80s. The premise is pretty sweet -- you sign up, they give you a really recognizeable 80s song as your prompt, and you write. In any fandom you want. Now that I can do. :D Signups are only open until tonight at midnight PST, though, so get crackin' if you wanna do it.

Does anyone have the faintest idea where I can find an icon site script other than Coppermine gallery or the Icon Sort script from new-place.org? I want something that gives me a summary of the most recent icons, and maybe a full count of all icons in the site. A way to have subcategories would be fun, too. [But I hate Coppermine.]

Also, I just picked up some new speakers for Mr. Laptop; with the insanely loud construction outside -- do they really need to jackhammer directly below my window? -- the original built-in speakers weren't cutting it anymore. Despite the speakers being only $50, they have great sound quality, so I'm stoked about that. Plus, now I can have bass battles with Bass Guy next door, late at night. He tends to turn his stereo on at around 11 PM, and keep it going until about 2 AM. With paper-thin dorm walls, I'm seriously considering earplugs.

Why yes, I am a shameless charity whore.

[banner by scatterheart]

Bidding is now open at Sweet Charity! There are so many fandomers up on the block, ready to sell their talents to benefit a worthy cause -- the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network [RAINN]. Any other time, I'd pimp myself. Right now, I'm pimping the site as a whole. It's a great thing fandom's doing, getting together to raise money for charity.

The auction is over on September 22nd, so bid, bid, bid! for your favorite writer, artist, vidder, or person in general.

I effing hate construction workers.

Not because of the noise at 6:30 AM, or the inconvenient detours through campus. No, I hate those fuckers because they always, always take their cigarette breaks directly below my second-story dorm window, so all of the smoke rises up and comes into my room. I'd close the window, but the dorm isn't air conditioned. I'm relatively sure they smoke perhaps the worst-smelling cigarettes ever invented. It's like someone rolled vomit and ass into a bit of paper and decided to smoke it. :|

Also? I know for a fact that the Resident Director told them to smoke well away from the buildings. Fucking assholes. My mom's gonna think I became a chain smoker at school when I come home on break, because all my stuff will smell like it.

Off to spray Febreze Air Effects liberally through my room. Again.

Okay, so I thought I was having a heart attack today.

Painful breathing, chest tightness, and all that. I was a little worried. And then? And then? I got lunch, drank some soda, belched... and the heart attack went away. ::snickers::

Yeah, clearly I'm a hypochondriac.

Also? I'm not sure what to make of these here iPods. They're cool and all, but I prefer glossy to matte, flat to rounded... you get the picture. I think the Metallipod -- a black 5th generation iPod with video -- is prettier than this "iPod Classic" thing they've come up with. [That said, I wouldn't mind a <s>pink</s> red Nano, because CUTE!] And the iPod Touch? Jeez, why not just say iPhone Lite and be done with it, Mr. Jobs?

The English are brilliant.

Last night I started watching a British mockumentary called Rabbit Fever. It deals with "The Rabbit" -- you know, that sex toy that Sex and the City advertized like crazy? -- and "addiction" to it. It could be the best mockumentary I've seen in months, for serious. Of course, Spinal Tap remains on top, but the fact that this one follows a group of people involved in Rabbit Addicts Anonymous just kept me giggling.

Probably the best scene in the entire thing involves a married couple visiting the wife's parents, who've invited a friend of theirs for dinner. The wife is addicted to the Rabbit, and the husband is still very insecure about that whole situation. Anyway, they're eating dinner, and the friend of the parents starts talking about this pet rabbit the wife had as a child, and that when she was sitting outside with that rabbit between her legs she was the picture of happiness. LMAO, seriously.

From IMDB: "The Rabbit is the world's belling-selling vibrator. In the past year alone, millions have been sold all over the globe. Now experts are warning the Rabbit is becoming the new addiction; women who start using often find they simply cannot stop. Rabbit Fever is the first film to follow the trials and tribulations of a group of Rabbit Addicts as they attempt to kick their Rabbit habit."

One of the first mockumentaries that I'd call awesomesauce.

Ladies and gentlemen, a way to get around the no downloading! rule at most state colleges, thanks to the MPAA, RIAA, DMCA, and various other acronyms, now:

tv-links.co.uk. Stream TV shows, movies, music videos... free. Pirated of course, but free. Woo! I've watched all of Justice [which I missed out on because of scheduling or something last year, dammit] and half of American Psycho [Christian Bale is ridiculously hot] and a few other things since getting to school.

Try it. You'll like it. :D

And have I mentioned how painfully perfect Christian Bale's entire person is? Dear God. ::fans self::

Whoever said Eragon was better than Harry Potter deserves a swift kick in the head.

Last weekend, I went to Barnes & Noble. I left with three purchases:

» "Dirty Minds" -- a multiplayer game in which the clues are dirty but the answers are clean [hilarious, BTW]
» Twilight -- because everyone and their mother has recommended it
» Eragon -- because I've always been interested in the premise and the movie was okay

So I pick up Eragon the other night, intending to read a few chapters before bed. And it turns out that reading Eragon causes the same type of pain as reading bad!fic. :| Which is basically what the book is -- bad fanfiction written by a sixteen-year-old nerd, and then edited in a slapdash manner by a man eager to profit on "young genius".

Things I got out of the first three pages [after which I flung the book away from me in horrified disgust]:

» The bad guy is a redhead. I guess this makes a change from Harry Potter, where the good guys were almost all redheads.
» There was an elf, and another elf, and a Mary Sue elf with eyes and hair dark as the night she was riding in.
» The bad guy minions look like men, except they don't at all.

Maybe I'll try to read it to my nephews at some point, but until then I can tell right now that it's gonna be gathering dust on my hasn't-yet-arrived dorm bookshelf/bed rack from Bed Bath and Beyond. The moral of this story: don't do everything you're interested in. It could make your brain hurt.

This, in and of itself, is a good thing. But when it's accompanied by construction workers outside my window at 5:00 AM every day, and by a scorching heat wave -- it's supposed to hit 97° today -- I have to put my foot down.
Ever wonder if one role can ruin an actor's career?

I'm pretty sure Alec McClure's been having a tough time finding work since playing Chris Hobbs on Queer as Folk. It's a shame -- he's obviously a good actor [and fecking hot, too]. Since that season 4 episode of QaF, he's been credited for four roles. One per year since 2004. However! I totally just saw him for two seconds in a movie trailer.

Maybe things are looking up for the guy who might've made a wee mistake playing a gay-bashing closet case. [To find him in the trailer, skip almost to the end -- he's a little blurry in the background at 2:10-2:14.]

To be all conclusionary and stuff... hate the character. Not the actor. Mr. McClure was brilliant as Chris[tian? according to TV.com and IMDB] Hobbs. He gave life to the character everyone despised. And while it's not horrendously difficult to hate a character that's so outrageously bigoted and loathesome, it's admirable of Alec to have gone onto the set of a show like Queer as Folk and act his little but off in a way that was completely unlike the rest of the cast, because his character was so far removed. That takes balls.

I'm in a secret-telling mood.

Here's my biggest secret: I dress like a tomboyish slob, but I'm actually a girly-girl. I love pink, and kittens, and sparkles. Seriously. My bedding for the upcoming school year is hot pink and red striped; my clothes hangers are magenta and white, my favorite pen is pink... it's ridiculous. I also have this thing about pink grapefruit, which I think also stems from the pink thing. Despite my propensity for wearing blue and somewhat baggy clothing, my favorite shirt is a red tank top with lace at the neckline and hem [my second favorite is a black tee shirt enscribed, "the naughty sister"].

I also cry when romantic comedies get tense. I may project myself as a bitch, but I'm actually a softie. A big, smooshy, pink-loving softie. Prickly on the outside, gooey on the inside. Like a chocolate-filled cactus or something. :|

What's something most people don't know about you? Anonymous comments are enabled.
